Low-Poly Book Shelf

Personal Project

3DS Max for modeling
Photoshop for texturing

A Low-Poly Book Shelf. I like the way the bookshelf came out, but I’m not as pleased with the books. I might consider redoing the texture in the future, or completely redoing the geometry.

  • Hey Toss,

Nice blog you have here! I dig your work especially the low poly stuff. This Bookshelf is quite beautiful (the wood work pattern rocks) but I have to say those encyclopedias look as if you could bludgeon someone to death with. Really what bothers me realistically about the shelf is that you have two full sets of the biggest books at the top. Usually heaver books and full shelves are at the bottom so the shelf doesn’t get tippy, not that your solidly designed shelf looks like it could tip in a million years. So maybe it a matter of arrangement and the use of some baked in shadows to round the spine of the books out more without adding geometry.

Do you ever check out Polycount? They have a lot of great low poly modeling happening over there. You’d be surprised at how much detail and roundness they can achieve with crazy limits like 500 – 600 triangles. http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=41232

Keep up the good work dude!
